"Developmental gene expression patternsdriving species-specificfeatures"
Despite a high degree of similarity in cell types across mammals, the cerebral cortex exhibits striking interspecies variations in size, organization, and functional abilities. A few species-specific genes or isoforms contribute to this diversity, yet differences in the developmental timing of expression of shared genes are likely to play a prominent role in the emergence of these distinctive features. Here, we generated a reference transcriptional framework to identify and compare cellular typo-temporal patterns of gene expression, enabling assessment of both species- specific differences and environmental impact.
