The Summer School Brain to Market is an intensive 5-day training program offered by Paris Brain Institute to learn, through practice, the key skills of health entrepreneurship.
Deployed by the Open Brain School, the training organisation of Paris Brain Institute, the Summer School Brain to Market brings together 50 international participants with complementary profiles: neuroscience student, young researcher, engineer, designers, and business profiles. During a week of immersion, they learn to link neuroscience and entrepreneurship through expert presentations and immediate practice: designing, in teams, innovative solutions for patients, families or caregivers.
A multidisciplinary team
During the first two days, Summer School participants receive high-level presentations in neuroscience from Paris Brain Institute investigators, AP-HP clinicians, and testimonials from patient associations. The event is also an opportunity for participants to strengthen their knowledge of entrepreneurship through presentations by the College of Engineers and the Institute’s Innovation Directorate. They also meet actors in the ecosystem: SMEs and industry in the sector, financing structures or investors. In the second part of the week, the teams work together to design their projects and receive personalised coachings in science and business.
Thus, participants experience the key stages of an innovative health project: understanding the problems of pathology, proposing relevant solutions, validating their interest for users, studying their viability from a scientific and economic point of view.
Epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, depression, anxiety and addictions… Every year, the event is dedicated to a different neurological or psychiatric pathology. Summer School participants draw on the expertise of Paris Brain Institute investigators and clinicians to understand pathology-specific problems and devise solutions.

Imagining innovative solutions
Projects developed by participants during the week are presented to a panel of experts in science and business. The winning project as well as the most relevant projects are studied by the Directorate of Innovation and the Care Lab, the Living Lab of Paris Brain Institute, to consider their further development.
