Our purpose and missions

Last update: 28/09/2024 Reading time: 1min

Paris Brain Institute was created to support and develop research on the brain and nervous system, serving a collaborative, interdisciplinary model conducive to innovation and breakthrough discoveries.

An immense scientific and medical challenge

An immense scientific and medical challenge

The most complex organ in the human body, the brain manages our social behaviors, emotions and actions. It makes us aware of the world around us, of ourselves and of others. Despite considerable advances in science and technology, our understanding of how it works is still very patchy. Nervous system pathologies, whether neurological or psychiatric, remain major public health issues that concern us all, particularly in view of our ageing population, which is increasing their incidence.
Understanding and treating diseases and injuries of the nervous system is a global research challenge for the 21st century. Today, medicine provides relief... Tomorrow, we need to prevent, cure and repair.
The teams at Paris Brain Institute are working towards the same goal every day: to transform fundamental discoveries in neuroscience into therapeutic solutions, so that they can be made available to patients and society as quickly as possible.

Our four missions

Our four missions

Paris Brain Institute is committed to deploying its raison d'être through four founding missions.

Research, whether fundamental, cross-disciplinary or clinical, for the benefit of patients and society.

Paris Brain Institute's scientific and medical strategy places the patient at the heart of its concerns. It is based on a multidisciplinary and synergistic approach, combining fundamental and translational research, clinical expertise and support for cutting-edge technological platforms, and benefiting from the exceptional environment of the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital's Neuroscience Department.

Innovation and valorization of discoveries

The aim of innovation at Paris Brain Institute is to accelerate the development of therapeutic solutions and to transform fundamental discoveries into therapeutic solutions, so that they can be made available to society as quickly as possible.

Teaching and training

Passing on and sharing knowledge are at the heart of Paris Brain Institute's commitments. To this end, it is developing a training program structured around three areas: neuroscience and technology, clinical neuroscience and neuroscience and innovation.

Information for the public and society

As a key player in the field of neuroscience, Paris Brain Institute is actively committed to sharing its knowledge with the general public. By providing reliable, accessible information on the brain, how it works and its diseases, it gives everyone the keys to a better understanding of the latest advances in research, and more broadly, sheds light on the growing impact of neuroscience on society.
