Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) contains all the genetic information, known as the genome, that enables living organisms to develop, function and reproduce.
DNA molecules are made up of two strands forming a double helix. Each helix is made up, among other things, of the following 4 nucleic bases:
- adenine (A)
- cytosine (C)
- guanine (G)
- thymine (T)
It is DNA that carries the genetic information of a living being.
