Limited ability to understand the context or overview of a situation.

In most people, the brain tends to automatically put details together to construct a global vision and give meaning to what is perceived: this is called strong central coherence.

But some people have a weak central coherence: they focus more on details than on the whole. They may notice things others do not see, but sometimes at the expense of the big picture.

This theory is often used to explain certain patterns of thinking in people with autism: they may be very attentive to details but have more difficulty integrating the whole situation.
