Emmanuelle Volle is PI in the Frontlab team of Paris Brain Institute. She obtained a medical thesis and a graduate diploma in neurology in 2003, a diploma in neuropsychology (2000), an MSc in neurosciences (2001), and a doctorate in neurosciences from the University of Paris 6 in 2007. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the UCL Institute of Cognitive Neurosciences. She stands on the executive committee of the Society for the Neuroscience of Creativity and is a member of the Gender Equity Committee of the Paris Brain Institute.
Her current research aims to understand the brain mechanisms of high-level cognitive functions such as creativity, problem solving and reasoning: How do creative ideas emerge? How do we solve new problems? How do we adapt to new situations?
To this end, she is using various methods of cognitive neuroscience, combining experimental psychology with neuroimaging approaches, such as functional MRI, brain connectivity, network sciences, voxel-based morphometry, electrophysiology, brain stimulation and, most importantly, patient studies. She is also interested in developing clinical applications to better assess or predict high-level cognitive deficits in neuropsychiatric diseases.
