NeurAL

The Paris Brain Institute's start-up studio and accelerator

Retour à la recherche

Given the rise in neurological and psychiatric disorders, transforming scientific discoveries into concrete solutions for patients is a major challenge. To address this challenge, NeurAL, the Paris Brain Institute’s startup studio dedicated to innovation in neuroscience, supports researchers, engineers, and entrepreneurs in developing innovative medical solutions for brain health.

The startup studio and accelerator NeurAL (formerly iPEPS) aims to foster and support innovations that can improve the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders.

NeurAL, a startup studio and accelerator: turning research into innovative companies

NeurAL, a startup studio and accelerator, is aimed primarily at researchers, clinicians, and innovators who want to turn their discoveries into concrete solutions.

This program gets involved from the earliest stages of a project’s development. It supports the structuring of innovative therapeutic and medical approaches, their market positioning, and the definition of a viable business model. The goal is to transform promising scientific results into solid entrepreneurial ventures.

The support offered by the startup studio is based on several key areas: proof of concept, technological and clinical development, market access strategy, company structuring, and access to a network of experts and investors. Project leaders thus benefit from an environment conducive to the maturation of their innovation, combining scientific expertise, operational support, and strategic guidance.

By fostering the creation of deep-tech startups, NeurAL helps accelerate the transfer of research discoveries into direct applications that benefit patients and the healthcare system.

The NeurAL startup studio and accelerator supports two types of projects, depending on their level of maturity:

  • Academic projects in the maturation phase (TRL 3–4): These projects, still in the proof-of-concept stage, receive 12- to 18-month support. The support provided aims to advance the technology and overcome key scientific and technical barriers. It includes funding dedicated exclusively to research and development (R&D) activities, through the NeurAL philanthropy fund.
  • Start-ups in the seed stage: These are young companies that have already been incorporated or are in the process of being established. They receive support over a period of 2 to 3 years to strengthen their development strategy, clarify their market positioning, make progress on regulatory matters, and accelerate their search for funding, in order to prepare for the next stages of growth.

NeurAL's offers

Who is NeurAL intended for?

NeurAL is primarily aimed at innovators in the field of neuroscience:

Researchers, engineers, and academic teams

The program enables scientists to leverage their discoveries and transform their research findings into practical applications.

Healthcare entrepreneurs

Leaders of deep tech projects in neurology, psychiatry, or e-health can benefit from a structured framework to develop their technologies.

Early-stage startups

Young companies receive support to consolidate their business model, validate their technology, and accelerate their growth.

While the program primarily targets research and innovation professionals, its benefits directly impact patients and the general public by accelerating the arrival of new therapeutic solutions.

Impact

A direct impact on patients and society

By accelerating the development of innovative medical technologies, NeurAL is helping to improve the management of brain diseases, which represent a major public health challenge.

The innovations supported can lead to:

  • earlier diagnosis of neurological diseases;
  • new therapeutic approaches;
  • more effective monitoring tools;
  • a better understanding of how the brain works.

Beyond research, the program helps build an innovation ecosystem in neuroscience and strengthens collaboration between science, medicine, and industry.

Ambition

An International Ambition for Innovation in Brain Health

Through NeurAL, the Paris Brain Institute aims to become a major player in neuroscience innovation on a European scale. The program is already attracting international applications and aims to foster the emergence of a new generation of technologies dedicated to brain health.

By fostering the creation of robust startups and the commercialization of scientific discoveries, NeurAL helps transform research into concrete solutions in a sustainable way, for the benefit of patients and society.
