According to the criteria of DMS5 (5th edition of the manual of diagnosis and statistics of mental disorders), depression is defined as a state of sadness or apathy (loss of envy and/or motivation).
Symptoms of depression
There are also more complex symptoms of depression such as empathy deficits, that is, difficulties in recognizing the emotions and feelings of others. These disorders are at the root of the difficulty in adapting socially, which leads to withdrawal, thereby amplifying the primary symptoms.
Any of these persistent symptoms is associated with 4 of the following 7 disorders:
- An appetite disorder
- Sleep Disorders
- Difficulty adapting to new or unusual situations
- Hyperactivity or motor retardation
- Severe fatigue
- A sense of guilt or low self-esteem
- Suicidal ideation
