"Novel Imaging Biomarkers for Dementia Therapeutics"
The diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and related neurocognitive disorders has transformed over the last several years from a clinical, phenotypical diagnosis to a biological, biomarker-based diagnosis, driven primarily by recent advances in molecular neuroimaging, and their integration into clinical practice. Notably, given the emergence of anti-amyloid immunotherapy in clinical practice, imaging of patients with neurodegenerative disorders is rapidly evolving and of increasing importance in both the clinical and research/academic setting. This lecture will focus on AD diagnosis and prognosis, assessment of biological disease severity/staging, as well as the utility of biomarkers for assessment of target engagement and prediction of treatment response, with an emphasis on established and emerging radiotracers including amyloid and tau-PET.
