There are no specific treatments for prion diseases. There is multidisciplinary, medical, psychological and social care.
Treatments for Prion Diseases
Medical management begins with the probable diagnosis of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. It covers the announcement of the probability of diagnosis and the appointment of a reference person to monitor health and social care. Patients, depending on the progress of their symptoms, may be monitored at home, hospitalized or receive palliative care at home. In other cases, they may move to a follow-up care unit or health facility. Treatments may be prescribed to alleviate the various symptoms and ease the day-to-day life of the patient.
Psychological management extends from the announcement of the probable diagnosis of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease to the patient and his/her family, to their support throughout the course of the disease. Doctors, psychologists and associations are on the front line in order to support the patient and his relatives.
Social care makes it possible to accompany the patient through all his administrative procedures in order to cover his care, to set up home support, tax or financial assistance.
