"Ctcf-anchored chromatin topology in the development and evolution of the central nervous system"

Chromatin topology is intricately linked to the regulation of gene expression. CTCF, an eleven-zinc finger transcriptional regulator, sets up the borders of topologically associating domains (TAD). At active sites, TAD borders contact each other, forming architectural loops that connect CTCF-bound sites. TAD structures and architectural loops consolidate in the early stages of embryonic development and strengthen progressively during the maturation of neural cells. I will discuss our most recent data, which reveal the molecular mechanism that underpins the consolidation of CTCF-mediated chromatin architecture during development. I will discuss the possible contribution of CTCF to cell fate decisions during the neuro-glial switch. Likewise, I will show data implicating CTCF-based chromatin structure in human astrocyte evolution.
