"Frontal Cognition: From Lesions To Computational Models"
Much of what we know about frontal lobe function has come from the study of patients with focal brain lesions. In this talk, I will review some of our recent work examining the contribution of frontal regions to fluid intelligence, reasoning, timing and abstraction. Drawing on studies of large, well-characterised lesion cohorts, I will consider the fractionation of frontal functions and some of the methodological challenges involved in linking lesion location to executive impairment. I will also discuss how computational approaches, including artificial neural networks, may provide new ways of linking patterns of brain damage to the mechanisms underlying complex cognition.
